The Pineapple Fish is a very unique creature. It is named for it's spiny yellow scales, resembling a pineapple. The sharp scales help to protect the fish against predators like octopuses and reef sharks. Pineapple Fish are slow swimmers because of their small fins and rigid armor. Other names for the Pineapple Fish are Pine Cone Fish, or Knightfish. The Japanese Pineapple very similar to the Pineapple fish, having a rounder nose. |
Pineapple Fish grow up to about 10 inches long. They typically weigh around 5 pounds as adults, with a plump, round body shape. Pineapple fish have tiny, thin teeth. This fish lives off of the coasts of Australia in reefs or harbors, about 20-660 feet deep in the water. This fish has a yellow body when it is young. As the fish gets older, it's body turns a darker red color. It is not dangerous to humans. |
